Zachary Alexander Carter Stevens

Zachary Stevens Obituary

On Saturday, August 4, 2007, Zach slipped away from his family into the presence of the Lord. He was born on November 16, 1989, to Monica Stevens and Sean Carter. Zach was a senior at Bullard High School. A talented athlete, Zach's favorite sports were ice hockey and football. His spare time was frequently filled with reading or hanging out with his friends and listening to music. When Zach was five-years old, he was diagnosed with a genetic growth disorder that required treatment at the National In-stitute of Health in Bethesda, Md. Yearly follow up trips inspired his love of travel. Zach was selected to be a People to People Student Ambassador and represented the United States in Australia, Wales, Ireland and England. His great-grandfather, John Stevens preceded him in death as well as grandfather, Paul Carter, Sr. Zach leaves a family who will cherish memories of a smart, hard-working, loving young man. His survivors include his parents, his uncles and their wives, Paul and Karlene Carter, Anthony and Dusty Hageman; aunt, Samantha Ponce and her husband Manuel; aunts, Melanie Maier and her husband Lloyd, and Michelle Stevens Welty. Although he leaves behind several cousins, he was especially close to his younger cousin by seven weeks, Jimmy Maier. He also leaves his grandparents, Jim and Janice Stevens, and Patricia Carter; his great-grandparents, Mildred Stevens, and Jim and Laurel Main. A Celebration of Life will take place at New Covenant Community Church, 1744 East Nees Avenue in Fresno on Friday, August 10, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Children's Inn at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland at www.childrensinn.org; or to a favorite charity.

Monica and Family,
I'm so sorry I couldn't be there to help celebrate Zach's graduation to heaven because of my physical problems, but you will continually be in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Zach did many wonderful things, like being an Ambassador, football player, and a talented photographer. He will be missed, but as a Christian, I know I will see him again. May the Lord bless you and comfort you.

Unfortunately, I did not get to spend nearly as much time with Zack as I wanted to. Living so far away did not help. But whenever I did, I always enjoyed myself. I remember when we were all little, hanging out over at Uncle (Grandpa) Jim's house, going swimming, causing tantrums and causing trouble. Good times... It really upsets me that I did not get to know him better. I loved him very much though. He was an amazing person, having done so many wonderful things with his life (I'm so jealous he was an ambassador! That's what I want to be!). It's a horrible thing for him to have passed so young. Then again, he beat us all to heaven. If anything, he's the lucky one.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your beautiful Zach. He was truly amazing and a wonderful gift. He will be missed by our family. I can picture him up in heaven with his Grandpa Great playing football and basketball. God be with you and the Fresno family.

I came to know Zach when he and my daughter Shayna attended Baird Middle School. There years at Baird brought me to know a wonderful and awesome kid. Zach and I would chat on the computer catching up on his weekends and his trips to where ever he had traveled. When I heard the news of his passing, it broke my families heart. My prayers and thoughts go out to Zach's family. Zach will be forever missed.

I was so sad to hear the news of Zach's accident and passing. He was such an awesome friend to my son Chris. Chris has shared so many wonderful stories of the great times and memories he and Zach shared. My son was blessed to have him as a buddy. He will forever be remembered for the wonderful young man he was. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
