Zella Summers passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. She was born in Visalia, CA on April 16, 1919, to Harrison and Violet Maxon. She graduated from Coalinga High School in 1936, studied one year at Coalinga Junior College and then moved to Fresno to attend Central California Commercial College. She soon met "her dear love", Traves Summers. They married and enjoyed a wonderful union that lasted 62 years. She was a homemaker and a business owner.
Having always enjoyed sports, Zella played tennis, swam on the Red Cross swim team, and played high school basketball and softball. Later in life, she enthusiastically took up golf at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club. As a past captain, she represented the Fort Washington women's group as a Director and Vice President of the Women's Golf Association of Northern California.
She always remained faithful to her charities. She was a charter member and past president of the Los Ninos Guild of the Valley Children's Hospital. A cause dear to her heart was the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, of which she was a Life Member. Bridge and gin rummy provided hours of fun with her many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Traves; sons, Brent and Timothy.
Zella is survived by her daughters-in-law, Mollie Summers and Carol Summers; her granddaughters, Christine Summers, and Sandra Kroeger and her husband Bryan; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her most recent blessing is her great-granddaughter, Riley Kroeger.
