Linda Patterson Obituary

Linda Shope Patterson, beloved wife, mother, sister, educator, and musician, passed away on July 4, 2025. She was the daughter of Morris Francis Shope and Esther M. Shope of Frankfort, Indiana.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy Bond Patterson of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and her two sons, Timothy Andrew Patterson and James Matthew Patterson, both of Memphis, Tennessee. She is also survived by her brothers, Morris F Shope of Poinciana, Florida, and William W Shope of Gulfport, Mississippi.

A proud graduate of Frankfort High School, Linda earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Ball State University. She later obtained a Master's degree in Education from Mississippi College and an Educational Specialist degree from Piedmont College in Georgia.

Mrs. Patterson dedicated her life to education and music. A distinguished educator, she was a member of the National Education Association and was recognized among the top 1 percent of teachers in the state of Tennessee. She played a significant role in shaping education at the state level, developing curriculum for the state of Georgia and evaluating teacher competency for the state of Tennessee.

In addition to her contributions to education, Linda was an accomplished concert violinist. She performed with the Germantown Symphony, the Tulane University Symphony, and the New Orleans Civic Orchestra. Her musical career included memorable performances for two governors, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and even included playing backup for Ray Charles. She also lent her talents to numerous theatrical productions and church services.

Linda Shope Patterson's life was marked by deep dedication to her students, her art, and her family. She will be remembered for her intelligence, grace, and the inspiration she provided to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
