Blake Starr Obituary

Funeral service for Blake Starr, 28, formerly of Jacksonville, will be at 6 p.m. today at Westside Baptist Church, Jacksonville, with the Rev. Truman Norred officiating and the Right Rev. James Wallace assisting. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 6 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Allison Harris Starr, of Rainbow City; parents, Mark and Jean Starr, of Jacksonville; sisters, Lacee Starr, Megan Starr Skidmore and husband, Mitchell, all of Jacksonville; great-grandmother, Margaret Starr of Oxford; nieces, Charlee Skidmore, Mackenzie and Madison Harris; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Larry Harris, of Rainbow City; brother-in-law, Jason Harris and wife, Joy, of Montgomery.
Blake lived most of his life in Jacksonville. He was a 2001 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He was currently employed at Jay Midsouth and was attending Gadsden State Community College where, next summer, he would have completed the Welding Technology Program. Blake was an artist and musician who loved jam bands and music festivals. He followed Widespread Panic for the past 11 years, seeing them perform over 150 times. Blake was very "grateful" to be able to travel and make new friends whom he always cherished and considered to be his extended family.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made, in his memory, to the Alabama Eye Bank, American Diabetes Association or the Presbyterian Home for Children.

Memories and Condolences
for Blake Starr

Not sure what to say?

April 12, 2012

I am so sorry to his family and friends. I worked with him for a short while and he was a trip. I know he will be missed and loved forever. Blake seemed to be such a free spirit, and I will never forget his bug pulling up in the parking lot each morning.

Blake can't believe it. Some reason that day I looked in the obituaries of the paper. And I seen your face and I lost it. I just couldn't figure out how this free spirt man who everyone loves could be gone. I remember all the good times we had, and how you would go out of your way every time you seen me to talk to me. Blake was a great friend, and I will never forget him. How could you, he made one heck of an impression on everyone he came in contact with. I can't tell you how much he impacted my life and the way I to this day carry myself. Thanks for being apart of my life, and I will see you soon.

Dear Starr Family, I can't begin to imagine the pain you must be feeling. Keep your faith strong and lean on God and His Word. Blake grew up to be such kind and handsome young man. Do you know that I remember exactly where he sat in my 5th grade classroom? Anytime something funny happened or was said, Blake would do the Beevis & Butthead laugh. Of course, that made the laughter go on and on. I secretly practiced "the laugh" at home so that I could humor Blake and the class, but I never could do it as well as he could. I never saw Blake without a smile on his face. He just lit up the room everywhere he was. I believe that soon we will all be laughing together again with Blake in the presence of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Until then, you will be in my thoughts and prayers daily. I love you all!

Dear Starr Family, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. I'd run into Blake in Jacksonville from time to time and he would always greet me with a big smile and say, "You're Andy's Mom! Hi, Andy's Mom!". It always brightened my day. I know when it is my time to go to the Glory Shore, I'll see him there with that same bright smile, and a welcome home for "Andy's Mom".

Starr Family: Blake was everyone's ray of sunshine. He always had the most genuine smile that was so welcoming. I do not think he ever met a stranger. So many people from all over the country loved Blake. The Widespread Panic Family lost another great soul. I will always remember him dancing in the isles at shows. Blake was most certainly correct, I WAS jealous of his sick dance moves. I pray for peace for your family. Love, LG

Blake used to crash at our house or come to various parties, or most times I would see him at WSP shows. He was one of the kindest souls I have ever met. He would literally give you the shirt off of his back. I don't understand why this happened, but I trust that Blake is somewhere happy and free from any earthly pain he may have been in. Rest in Peace, Blake.
