DANIEL WAS A VERY SPECIAL YOUNG MAN. I WORKED WITH HIM WHEN HE COMPLETED HIS INTERNSHIP AT ETOWAH COUNTY DHR. HE HADE AN IMPRESSION OF ME AND OTHERS. HE DEMONSTRATED THAT HE WAS A HARD WORKER, TRUST WORTHY, AND HIS LOVE FOR CHILDREN AND OTHERS WAS EXPRESSED. HE WILL BE MISSED. MY PRAYERS ARE WIYH YOU THROUGHOUT THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

TO THE FAMILY OF DANIEL, I GOT READY TO COME TO THE FUNERAL HOME BUT, I STARTED CRYING AND COULD NOT STOP. I HAD TALKED TO DANIEL NOT LONG AGO AND HE WAS SO UP AND HAPPY. I TOLD HIM I LOVED HIM. HE SAID, "YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU, SWEET TEACHER." OH, DANIEL, I SAID, YOU SURE ARE LAYING IT ON THICK, AND WE BOTH LAUGH. ONLY GOD CAN HELP YOU, LAURA AND RONNIE. NO ONE KNOWS THE LOSS OF A CHILD, UNLESS THEY GO THREW IT, AND I HAVE, AND MY HEART STILL ACHES. KNOW I AM PRAYING FOR YOUR FAMILY. YOUR LOVING TEACHER.

Throughout her days at JSU, Julie always talked about how much fun Daniel was, how much she and the other students enjoyed being around him, and how he was willing and more than capable of explaining anything in class that they did not understand.
I, too, had a lot of fun when I was around Daniel. His kindness was overwhelming.
This was evident tonight, at the funeral home, when I talked with his family, friends and classmates, some who drove many miles, to express their sorrow to his loved ones. Their tears were mixed with laughter at the funny things Daniel had done.
Daniel McBurnett's death is a great loss to his family, friends, and the many people whose lives might have been touched by Daniel as he followed his lifetime dream of helping others through his major in social work.
Sincerely,
Ellen Akin
