Dorothy McElrath Obituary

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Chapel for Dorothy N. McElrath, 67, Hokes Bluff, who passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, surrounded by her family. The Revs. J.L. Daugherty and Bruce Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Chapel is in charge.
Mrs. McElrath was born Aug. 12, 1943, to the late Milton and Erma Buel. She was a member of Young's Chapel Church. Dorothy graduated from Hokes Bluff High School and was retired from the Gadsden City Board of Education after 25 years of service as lunchroom manager at Eura Brown.
She was preceded in death by her son, Raleigh McElrath Jr.; brothers, John and James Buel; and sisters, Linda Fitts and Inez Bennich.
She is survived by her husband, Raleigh McElrath; daughters, Donna (Chris) Womack and Denise McElrath; brothers, Lonnie Buel and Wyman Buel; sister, Mildred Norris; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be T.G. Bennich, Shane Bennich, Jeff McCoy, Tim Fitts, Noah Smith, Eddy Norris, Scott Norris and Mack Buel.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center; and the staff of Alacare Home Health.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snell Grove Civitan Center, 324 Ninth St. N., Gadsden, AL 35903, in memory of Dorothy McElrath, but also in honor of her daughter, Denise McElrath.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
