Douglas McGowan Obituary

Douglas L. McGowan, 66, Southside, lost his battle with cancer after fighting for five years on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at W.T. Wilson Funeral Home in Rainsville. The Rev. Jack Campbell of Macedonia Baptist Church will officiate. He will be laid to rest at the Williams Family Cemetery in Kilpatrick, Alabama, beside his love, Pet.
Douglas was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy, retired 22 years 8 months. He received several medals for bravery and was awarded Navy achievement medal and Navy commendation medals.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish with his son, Jonathan McGowan, and grandson, Coley McGowan.
He was survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn McGowan; two sons, Michael McGowan and Jonathan McGowan; seven grandchildren, Patrick McGowan, Coley McGowan, Ansley McGowan, Elenora Vera McGowan, Willam McGowan, Benjamin McGowan, Josevine McGowan; honorable mention, daughter in law, Stephanie McGowan who loved him dearly; Riverview 7th floor nurses and Dr. Osuji, Alacare nurses, Sarah and Becky Sparks of Homeland security and all security guards of Homeland security, and niece he loved dearly Kim Wycoff.
Honorable Pallbearers are Donnie Williams, Coley McGowan, Jerry Baker, Mike Griffith, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Flowers welcome at W.T. Wilson Funeral Home in Rainsville, Alabama.
