James Rogers Obituary

December 4, 1942 – October 7, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla. The family will receive friends for visitation for an hour prior to the service. Casual attire requested.
Michael Rogers and Larry Alderson will officiate.
Born in Trenton, Ga., James graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1960. Mr. Rogers was a businessman in Fort Payne for over 30 years and helped transition to business being open on Sunday. James and Lane Traylor were known for painting "Joe's Truck Stop" at the foot of Highway 35; the name was adopted by the city and it is still referred to by that title.
He was formerly married to Linda Hughes, who preceded him in death.
He began working at Piggly Wiggly bagging groceries and later worked for IGA, then began as a meat cutter at A&P, becoming manager over the meat department. Mr. Rogers bought his first store in Fort Payne, "Rogers Stop-n-Shop," then purchased the store on Lookout Mountain from the Eberharts, at which point it became the "Rogers Handi Mart," and also owned the first Radio Shack store in Fort Payne. An avid Alabama fan, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Rogers retired at the age of 59 and lived in Cedar Bluff at Lake Weiss with his beloved wife of 13 years, Judy King Rogers. He also leaves behind son, Michael Rogers (wife, Kari); stepson, Michael King (wife, Kassy); grandchildren, Meghan, Emma and Jacob Rogers and Emma King; sisters, Sybil and Faye; along with several nieces and nephews; special pets, Sam and Abby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
