Jerry and I grew up within the Magic of West Gadsden, and we were friends from the beginning. It was so good to have reconnected with him several times in the past dozen years: the 100th Anniversary of Twelfth Street Baptist Church; the Final Homecoming at Gadsden High School; most recently, A Walk Through Time at Forrest Cemetery. Jerry told a group a couple of years ago that he and I were kin by osmosis. And so we were.

Unfortunately, I did not have the privilege of knowing Colonel Heard. I knew his father, Mr. Hollie Heard, well. It was an honor to know him. He was an example to many and I'm sure that Jerry learned much from Mr."Hollie." We are very saddened by the loss of Jerry but at the same time, know that his hope of heaven is now realized. Ours prayers are with you, Mrs. Heard.
