Wayne Carroll Obituary

Wayne David Carroll, born March 10, 1934, passed into the presence of his Lord Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, peacefully at his home at 8270 Hwy. 431, Carlisle. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. today at Sand Valley Assembly of God, 1044 Spout Springs Road, Attalla with the Revs. Billy Cross and Levernon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Knox Whitt Cemetery, behind the church, with the Rev. Harry Whitt ministering at the gravesite. Etowah Memorial Chapel directing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lennie Whitt Carroll; son, Mike (Denise) Carroll; daughter, Crystal (Philip) Gazaway; three grandsons, Bret (Pamela) Carroll, Warren (Tracey) Gazaway and Ben (Kelley) Carroll; one granddaughter, Wendy (Phil) Hood; three great-granddaughters, Savanna, Emma Grace and Olivia Schaefer; one great-grandson, Jalen Carroll; mother-in-law, Stella Whitt Maroney; chosen son, Billy Noojin; one sister, Martha Jean Gaither; two brothers, Billy and Jackie Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Russell Carroll; mother, Myra Hubbard Carroll Jolley; father-in-law, Knox Whitt; and brothers-in-law, Doyle R. Whitt, Jerry Gaither, Rayburn Jones and Dennis Mason.

Pallbearers will be Bret and Ben Carroll, Warren Gazaway, Tim Schaffer, Pat Mason, Greg Whitt, Phil Hood and Chad Jones.

Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Kevin and Frankie Gaither and Steve Whitt.

He was a member of Sand Valley A/G for 36 years, faithfully supporting his wife in her pastoring of 45 years. He joined the Army and his Infantry was the first foot-soldiers in Korea, he was 17 at the time. He served for three years, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a truck driver for 33 years. He was a "people person," an Alabama fan and an avid deer hunter. He loved his Lord, his family and his work. Since his retirement in 1989, he trusted God and won many victories over poor health. Now he has won his final victory.

The body will lie in state from noon until service time today at the church.
