Gaffney, SC – Anthony Clegg Hopper Sr., 96, of 124 Fernwood Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Carol Miller Hopper and the son of the late Clyde G. Hopper and Ruth Wilson Hopper. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, University of South Carolina and was a World War II United States Army Veteran, having served in Europe and the Pacific. Mr. Hopper was co-owner and operator of Sunnydale Meats and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served on many committees, was a Life Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for The Anthony Hopper Class.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are three sons, Anthony "Tony" Hopper Jr. (Rachel), Chad Miller Hopper (Cindy) and Brent K. Hopper (Paula), all of Gaffney; a daughter, Debbie Landers (Ed) of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Patrick Hopper (Blythe), Matthew Hopper, David Hopper, Erin Hopper (fiance' Matt Jordan) and Chris Hopper (Demi); a great-granddaughter, Wyatt Hopper; a sister-in-law, Sue Hopper of Gaffney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hopper was preceded in death by two brothers, Lance Hopper and Graham Hopper; a granddaughter, Kristin Hopper; a granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Hopper.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM until 3:00PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00PM at the church with Dr. Tommy Huddleston, Colonel Roy Mathis and Reverend Tommy Comer officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, 200 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC, 29340 or charity of one's choice.
The family will be at the residence.
