Cathy Bishop Parker, of 340 Linder Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the beloved wife of Terry Parker and the daughter of the late Seebern D. and Lois R. Bishop.
Cathy graduated from Parker High School in Greenville in 1976, and after graduating from Limestone College in 1980, she began her career in education. She was a teacher from 1980-2015; she adored her students and she had the gift of incredible patience. She taught at Mary Bramlett and Limestone-Central Elementary Schools in Gaffney, SC. Her true calling was working with individuals with disabilities, and she had quite a close bond with "her" kids, many of whom thought of her and Terry as family. Over the course of her career, she furthered her education, earning her Master's Degree plus 30 from Winthrop University. She always wanted to be the best she could be for her students and she was a humble servant as she worked with them.
She served with the Special Olympics for 36 years. Cathy was a long-time member of Macedonia Baptist Church, volunteering with her husband in the church office after her retirement, as long as her health allowed. Cathy loved teaching in the Special Education classroom and helping children. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband of 44 years.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her dear brother, Leslie Frank Bishop.
Interment will be private; a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be nade to Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, SC 29341 or Special Olympics - Cherokee County, 9039 Fairforest Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
