Larry Petty Obituary
Gaffney, SC - Larry Gene Petty, 78, of 1152 Champion Ferry Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at his residence.
Born in Cleveland County, NC, he was the husband of Linda McCraw Petty for 57 years and son of the late Patrick (P.G) Petty and Sudie Ruppe Petty. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Nashville Auto Diesel College, the retired owner/operator of Cherokee Avenue Garage, and a member of the S.C. Army National Guard. Larry was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church where he was a former Chairman of Deacons, former Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and served on the Building & Grounds Committee. He loved his family, especially his granddaughters, loved his church, deer hunting, fishing, camping, NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, classic Western movies, was a former dirt track race car driver and loved to ride around his community in his golf cart.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Dale P. Petty of Mooresboro, NC; a brother, Mike Petty (Betty) of Chesnee; a sister, Linda Earls (Stanley) of Gaffney; two granddaughters, Madison Petty and Hollie Petty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Richard Petty.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Lavonia Baptist Church with Reverend Tripp Biggerstaff and Reverend David Slatton officiating. Interment will be in the Lavonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association, 1017 N. Washington Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
The family will be at the residence, 1152 Champion Ferry Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.
