Lena Martin

Augusta, Ga. - Entered into rest on Thursday, April 11, 2024, Lena Vinesett Martin, 91, loving wife of 70 years to the late T. Andrew "Andy" Martin.

Lena was born in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the youth program. Lena worked for Castleberry's Food Company as executive assistant to the chairman and president and corporate secretary of the company. She was a loving mother and grandmother, known affectionately as "Nana".

Family members include her children: Cary Long (Ellen) of Baxley, Ga., Steven Andrew (Sharon) of Mauldin, S.C., and Suzy Dekle of Augusta. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Marti England (Leif), Marcus Long (Jena), John Martin (Brittany), Alicia Keller, Thomas Wesley Martin (Candace), Joshua J. Martin (Ashleigh), LeAnne Morlan (Brandon Zapata), Kati Browning (Daniel), as well as 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Bedford and Ollie Vinesett, three sisters and two brothers.

The family would like to thank everyone at Thrive of Augusta for their outstanding care of Lena, and Dora Chance for her love and compassion.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Floyd Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Wesley Martin, John Martin, Josh Martin, Marcus Long, Daniel Browning and Brandon Zapata.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
