Spartanburg, SC – Lois Brown McMakin, 87, of 180 Edgewood Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Spartanburg, she was the widow of the late Carl Jefferson McMakin, Jr. and daughter of the late Elbert B. Brown and Thaddie Bolton Brown. She retired from Wagon Wheel Fish Camp after 35 years of service and was a very active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Cowpens for 75 years. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening and cooking.
Surviving are two sons, Philip McMakin (Nee) of Roebuck and Patrick McMakin (Paula) of Chesnee; two daughters, Paula Lance (Mark) of Inman and Phyllis Riddle (Todd) of Cowpens; nine grandchildren, Luke Lance (Mikayla), Jordan Mullins (Denver), Joseph Lance, Karsen McMakin, Kendal Budd-Felix (Kash), Andrew McMakin (Shelby), Morgan Lee (Bryce), Trenton Riddle and Lauren Riddle; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Brown, Donnie Brown and Harold Dean Brown and a sister, Elaine Thrift.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Mountain View Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM at the Church with Reverend Steven Griffith officiating. Interment will be in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
The family will be at the residence, 180 Edgewood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
