Gaffney, S.C. - Robert (Bob) Loyd Smalley, 82, of 426 Beaver Ridge Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 26, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Carolyn Guyton Smalley and son of the late Loyd Franklin Smalley and Othella Guthrie Smalley. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Clemson University and retired as an engineer from Milliken after over 50 years of service. He loved football, especially the Clemson Tigers, loved reading, hiking, especially at Cades Cove, farming, history and genealogy. He loved his family, especially his wife, Carolyn, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Robert Scott Smalley and wife, Mary Ann, of Gaffney; a daughter, Susan Smalley Small of Simpsonville; a brother, Ray Smalley and wife, Martha, of Gaffney; two sisters, Sue Wright and husband, Dick, of Mauldin, and Betty Folz and husband, Walter, of Stevensville, Md.; four grandchildren, Carolyn Haas and husband, Jay, Jr., Johnson Small, III, Adam Loyd Smalley and Christopher Scott Smalley; three great-grandchildren, Pruitt Haas, Tallulah Haas and Jay Haas, III. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Smalley and Vaud Smalley and a sister, Barbara Wingo.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Keith Harrill officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
