Wayne Vassey Obituary

Abbeville, S.C. - Wayne L. Vassey, 86, entered into rest Friday February 7, 2025 at Care of the Piedmont Hospice and Palliative House in Greenwood surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 6, 1938 in Gaffney SC to the late John Albert and Ethel Coyle Vassey, he was a 1956 graduate of Gaffney High School, and served his country in the United States Marine Corp for 4 years.

He attended the University of South Carolina and earned a degree in Criminal

Justice before joining the South Carolina Highway Patrol, serving for 11 years. Wayne retired from CSX railroad after 29 years of service. He attended Abbeville International Pentecostal Holliness Church for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Clinton #3 A.F.M.

Surviving are his children, Rhonda V. Thomason (Larry) of Abbeville and Wayne Len Vassey (Richard) of Atlanta; his brother, Kenneth Vassey of Gaffney; his grandchildren, Courtney Seavey (Josh), Beth Thomason, and Brooke Thomason (Grady); his great grandchildren, Kendall, Brady, Brett, and Cruze; his special friend, Dorothy Jean Fleming; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Dean Vassey.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday February 10th at 11:00 AM from Melrose Cemetery with Rev. Ray Massey officiating.

Memorials may be made to Care of the Piedmont Hospice and Palliative, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646, or to Abbeville International Pentecostal Holiness Church, 109 Barnett St. Abbeville, SC 29620.
