null REINEKE Obituary

REINEKE

Sr. Marie Julie, SND

(Mary Katherine Reineke)

Always full of hope and exuding joy in her life, Sister Marie Julie walked each day spreading peace and good will to others. She accepted her diagnosis of cancer with serenity and trust in the God she served in radiant simplicity. Her entry into Ebeid Hospice on Wednesday marked the final stop of her earthly pilgrimage where she died on Friday, August 10. Born in Bellevue, Ohio in November of 1951, she was happily received into the family of Joseph and Alice Reineke as the fourth of five children.

Mary Katherine attended Immaculate Conception School for her elementary schooling and, having completed the eight years in seven, entered the Notre Dame Aspirancy Program and began high school at Notre Dame Academy in September of 1965. In 1969, she entered the community of the Sisters of Notre Dame, received the name of Sister Marie Julie and began her long years of teacher training. She loved teaching and endeared herself to all of her students. For eight years she taught in the elementary school, and then moved into the high school where she spent the next thirty years.

In 2004, she traveled to Gainesville, FL and joined with others to begin the first catholic high school in that area of the diocese. Beginning with freshmen only in very makeshift buildings while the new school was still being constructed, she helped forge the spirit and curriculum of the new St. Francis High School. In May of 2012, she left the school in which she was so significantly a presence in order to return to Toledo because of her illness.

Sister Marie Julie attended Mary Manse College, Toledo; Ball State University, IN; University of Dayton; and Creighton University, NE. She was on the faculties of St. Mary, Norwalk; Sacred Heart, Fremont; St. Mary, Muncie, IN; Gesu, Christ the King, Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and St. Francis, Gainesville, FL where she was awarded Catholic Educator of the Year

in the spring of 2009.

Preceding her in death are her parents. Left to mourn her passing are her sisters: Joan Koechley and close friend Ken West, Marlene (Richard Bushman) and Sandra (Thomas) Gleespen; and her brother Douglas (Dee) Reineke, and nieces and nephews, and her religious sisters of the Toledo Province.

Visitation will be at the Toledo Provincial Center on Secor Road on Monday from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Sharing of Memories at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 on Wednesday in the Provincial Center Chapel followed by the burial at Resurrection Cemetery.

Arrangements are made by Urbanski Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame or St. Francis Catholic High School: Sr. Julie Scholarship Fund.

Sr. Julie, I will celebrate your life until we meet again at the Lord's Table. You have shown me so much as how to openly Love Jesus by serving others with a song in your heart. My family has been so very Blessed because of you and we will be forever grateful.
Thank you for saying Yes to Jesus and for being obedient to our Mother Church, our lives will never be the same. The Glynn's Gainesville , Fla.
