AMY FLANEGAN Obituary

FLANEGAN, AMY LYNN
Amy Flanegan unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on January 9, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. Amy was born on February 27, 1983 in Gainesville, Florida. She made a positive impact on everyone she came into contact with, whether she had known them her whole life or was meeting them for the first time. She is known to her family and many friends as being a truly bright light who made the best, and the most, of every moment. Amy radiated happiness and had a smile that could light up a room. She loved music and dance, which were her passions. Most of all though, she adored her family and her many friends and always made others feel loved and important.
Amy graduated from Buchholz High School in 2001 where she was a member of the Aviance Dance Team and Band. She then attended Florida State University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology in 2005. Following college, she was accepted into the Kennedy Center Performing Arts Internship Program in Washington, D.C. She then enrolled in a graduate program in Performing Arts Administration at NYU Steinhardt and graduated with her Master's degree in 2009.
After graduating from NYU, Amy accepted a position with Madison Square Garden Entertainment. She worked for several years at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and then transferred to the west coast to help in re-opening the Forum in Los Angeles, CA. Most recently she served as the Director of Event Operations and Administration at the Forum. Overall, her career at Madison Square Garden Entertainment spanned a period of nearly nine years. Amy always enjoyed working with and appreciated the support of her long-term supervisor, mentor and friend Nick Spampanato.
Amy was preceded in death by her mother, Dawn Flanegan.
She is survived by her father, Bert Flanegan and stepmother, Julie Flanegan; her brother, Ryan Flanegan and his wife, Ella; her sister, Jennifer Dobies and her wife, Becky Hanna; by her mother's sister and her husband, Carla and Russell Klepper; and by her father's sister, Sandy Lebeau. She was the coolest aunt of all to Aidan Flanegan, Hadley Hanna-Dobies, and Emma and Benjamin Murphy. She will also be missed by her stepbrothers Graham and Ryan Murphy, and Ryan's wife, Martina.
A Celebration of Amy's life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave, Gainesville, Florida 32653. A reception will be held immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the Flanegan family invites donations in Amy's name to the Los Angeles SPCA by visiting www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/in-memory-of-amy-flanegan or another charity of your choice. Amy was passionate about animals and loved her two rescue dogs, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.
We are greatly saddened by Amy's passing but could not be any prouder of her for what she accomplished during her life and the impact that she had on everyone she touched. We are all thankful for the time we had with her and the joy she brought to our lives. Please visit her memorial page at
