Charles Cunningham Obituary

Charles Joseph Cunningham, DDS
Littleton, CO - Charles (Chuck) Joseph Cunningham, D.D.S., passed away May 3, 2021 in Littleton, Colorado, at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving children.
Chuck was born in Dyersville, Iowa and moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin where he graduated from Aquinas High School. He completed his pre-dental education at Marquette University and later graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1957.
After graduation, Chuck entered the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Two years later, he married Anita Carol Pelot of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
After serving in the Navy for over 20 years, Chuck became an Associate Professor of Dentistry at the University of Kentucky. He and his family lived in Lexington, Kentucky for 14 years before he became a Professor of Dentistry at the University of Florida in 1991. Chuck retired from full-time teaching in 1996, and continued teaching part-time in the endodontic graduate program until 2019.
During his career, Chuck served as President of the American Association of Endodontists and President of the American Board of Endodontists. He was also active in many community activities, such as the Lexington Irish Society, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville, and Catholic Charities of Gainesville.
Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 53 years, Anita. He is survived by his three children, son Charles (wife Sandra) of Santa Barbara, California, daughter Shannon of St. Petersburg, Florida and daughter Kelly (husband Roger) of Littleton, Colorado. Six grandchildren, JorDann, Christopher, Daisy, Katherine, India, and Nicholas, and one great-grandchild, Martin, make up the remainder of his very close-knit family.
A Catholic Funeral Service was held for Chuck on May 8, 2021 in Littleton, Colorado. He will be interred, along with his wife, at Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may leave condolences on Chuck's Tribute Wall at www.EllisFamilyServices.com

If you would like help with any matters related to casualty assistance, Defense Finance & Accounting Service, Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), Veterans Affairs (VA), etc. you can contact our office on Buckley AFB at 720-847-6693. The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
