Charles Sommerfield Obituary
Gainesville - Charles Michael Sommerfield, 87, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on March 25, 2021 in Gainesville, FL.
Charles was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ann and Arthur Sommerfield on October 27, 1933. He went to James Madison High School, Brooklyn College and went on to earn a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Harvard University. He was a Professor of Physics at Yale University for more than 40 years and most recently was a Courtesy Professor of Physics at the University of Florida.
Charles is preceded in death by his mother and father.
Charles is survived by his wife Linda of Gainesville, FL, his son Daniel of Mercer Island, WA, his daughter Elizabeth of Arlington, VA, his brother David of Washington, DC, and his grandchildren Cecilia, Julia and Joseph Sommerfield of Mercer Island, WA and Carleigh and Dana Sullivan of Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amnesty International, PO Box 98233, Washington, DC 20077-7014. Condolences may be left in www.forestmeadowfh.com

Dodie and I are so sorry to learn of Charlie's passing. Charlie was a warm and delightful guy and a terrific physicist .
