Dwight Worthington Obituary

WORTHINGTON,
DWIGHT ALAN
Dwight Alan Worthington, age 65 of Gainesville, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Dwight was born August 1, 1953 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Leo Benjamin and Alma Patterson Worthington. He grew up in Portland, Oregon and he loved hiking, snow skiing and anything outdoors. He was an athlete, excellent chef, woodworker, and life-long friend. He could fix anything. He loved to have a good time and was kind to all. Dwight's life focused around his family.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Worthington; children, James Worthington and Jennifer Worthington Nino and son-in-law Juan Claudio Nino; brothers, Darrell, Douglas, Dale and Dave Worthington and grandchildren, Jameson and Gabrielle.
Rather than formal services, Dwight would like you to gather and think of all the good things, good times, and funny stories. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to his surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Nissen through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at tiny.cc/WAH

Wow, just fell upon this obit and was shocked. I spent several years going to grade school with Dwight, knew his mother and had met a couple of his brothers (first time in my life, up to then, where I came upon Bro´s that all shared the same middle name). For a couple years we were very close, did a lot together including a couple camping excursions to the Oregon coast with his Mother and Stepfather. Lost touch during high school years, him going to school across town at Woodrow Wilson High while I went to my neighborhood school Roosevelt High. Still shared occasional phone calls, but fewer each passing year. We did meet on the football field once or twice, though, and his team probably spanking us but who´s counting. For some strange reason I thought of Dwight today and upon querying his name I found his obit. Dwight as a youngster was a physical specimen-muscular as heck and fast as a deer. Always a nice guy and for the years I spent being his bud he was always a great person-well as great as a early teenage boy could have been. Hope and pray that his family is comforted by the few kind words that I have shared here. God bless.

I am so very sorry to have learned about Dwight today. He was a wonderful man, husband, dad and grandfather. He fought the good fight with the help of his wife. I know that he is at peace but is missed by many. To Nancy and family- you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love and hopes that you are each enjoying wonderful memories of Dwight.

I'm sorry for the late entry, I just found out today about Dwight's demise.

He was a great neighbor, ski instructor and most of all friend. I have many fond memories of hanging out with him in our adjoining yards. Even better, when we would meet for skiing in Utah. I'm sorry we lost track after I moved, but I will never forget the friendship we shared.
