Baker, Ella

Mrs. Ella Baker, age 83, passed away October 21, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Baker was a life-long resident of Gainesville, and a member of St. Peter Baptist Church, Archer, FL. She was a graduate of the Alachua County School System, and attended School for Nursing in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Baker was employed as a Nurse at Shands Hospital and retired after thirty-four years of dedicated service.

She is survived by her sons; Emanuel Baker (Jessie), Gainesville, FL, Reginald Baker (Shulane), San Bernardino, CA, sisters; Hattie Neal, Climentine Hunt, both of Archer, FL, Luvenia Reese, Gainesville, FL, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held, 11:00am, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Peter Baptist Church, Archer, FL, Rev. Dewayne McBride, officiating; burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL.

Mrs. Baker will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 2-7pm; the family will receive friends from 6-7pm; on Saturday she will repose at the Church from 10:00am until the hour of service. Family and friends are asked to meet at the home of Mrs. Baker, 2506 N.E. 13th Avenue, Gainesville, FL, at 10:00am to form the cortege.

I worked with Ella for many years at Shands on the 7th floor pediatric unit. She was a quiet compasionate woman and an excellent caring nurse. She will be missed by many so much. My condolences to her family.
