My memories of Dr. Bartley are vivid to this day. He was a professor of mine at UF in the 1980s. Now 25 years on I can say that the things I learned while watching him smoke his pipe and drink Coca Cola have been invaluable. The most important thing I learned was always know the answer to the question you are asking. His advice has held me in good stead for many years and I simply can not imagine the planning department with out his office stacked from floor to ceiling with a zillion papers. But you could ask him about anything and he could go directly to the right stack and find it. A miracle I reckon. He will be greatly missed by all.

My heart goes out to Dr. Bartley's family and friends. As a non-traditional student, I was privileged to study planning and zoning law foundations with Dr. Bartley. He was a tremendous teacher and inspiration and provided the foundation for my career-change, including his recommendation that I continue in law school. I am ever grateful for my learning experience with this wonderful mind and wonderful man. -- JD Grad 2006

When I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say, "I used everything You gave me."
I don't think Dr. Bartley will have any problem in making this statement.
I'm so sorry for your great loss.

To Debbie, Dr. Will, Susan, Nan, Will Jr.
I just read today of your great lost! I will always remember the chat's and wealth of information that was Dr. Bartley. When you two returned from Alaska, when he wasn't sure he could attend. It touched me in a special way that only you all could understand. I'm just a phone call away!!! Just e-mail me for the numbers! I'll never forget him or you!
God Bless You All, Love Sherran Brooks

Dr. Bartley was one of the greatest teachers I ever had, and I feel so fortunate to have taken classes with him. He was dynamic and enthusiastic in class and provoked us to think harder than we were used to doing. My sympathies are with his family. I will never forget him.

As a secretary for many years for Dr. "B" he will be greatly missed. The war stories the grand kids stories all made me a better person for my family - he will always be a hero in my life of survival.

Dr. Bartley was an inspiration to me and my career. I remember the first day I met him was when I was deciding on which Masters program I would attend. We spent several hours and several pipes in his crowded office. I made my decision without ever visiting FSU based on that conversation and my career was enriched because of it. He will be missed.

Please accept our deepest sympathies. As former students, we will never forget Dr. Bartley ("Bart"). He was a wonderful teacher, and his lectures and colorful stories made a lasting impression on us. We have fond memories of "painting the town red" with Bart at the 1992 APA Conference in DC. He'll certainly be missed, and we're so glad to have known him.
