Farrell Steven "Steve" Permann
High Springs - Farrell Steven "Steve" Permann, 66 years old, died suddenly in his home in High Springs, Florida in the early morning on April 2, 2021. He is dearly missed by his family, especially his wife of 47 years, Theresa Ann Permann; his two sons, Chase and Shadd; and his two grandchildren that he doted over, Marina and Ruben.
He was born at Madigan Army Hospital in Richland, Washington on September 27, 1954. Steve was the third of six children born to parents Ruben and Marilyn (Ferguson) Permann. His siblings in birth order are Chana, Brent (deceased), Brenda, Richie, and Teressa. Steve is survived by his 89 year old mother, Marilyn, and four remaining siblings.
Steve grew up in a military family that lived many places including Germany where one summer he hitchhiked across Europe with his brother Brent seeing many great bands of the time including his favorite Jethro Tull. Upon returning to the states, he graduated from Pocatello High School and enlisted in the Navy as a Yeoman- where he met Theresa and started their tight knit family that lived and traveled all over the country having many unforgettable adventures. Steve continued his education finishing with a Masters in Business Administration in 1990 from Amber University in Texas. His final tour of duty as a Senior Chief Petty Officer was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kennedy, to which he proudly served alongside his son Chase. After retiring from the Navy in 1997, he settled in High Springs, Florida. He worked as an Academic Advisor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida, where he took pleasure helping undergraduate students before completely retiring in 2013.
Steve enjoyed planting many different varieties of trees on his five acres, which was mostly bare land when he purchased it. Eventually turning it into his own little forest where birds, foxes, and deer flourished. He tended to his well cared for garden, chickens, goats, and dog Copper. In his younger days, he enjoyed woodworking projects that Theresa would then toll paint on plates and Christmas ornaments that everyone enjoyed receiving as gifts yearly. He also completed building projects including multiple sheds and a treehouse for Marina. In the evening, you could usually find him working on a puzzle. He loved fishing with his sons on the local lakes and rivers, especially the Santa Fe River where he was photographed doing so for a Gainesville Sun article back in 2012. Steve was an all around great guy that deserved more time here.
A casual celebration of life for Steve and Theresa will be held on their land at 12 noon on the 24th of July. Please email
