MCDONELL, GEORGE G

George McDonell, 70, of Gainesville, FL went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2010 after a lengthy illness. George was born on January 15, 1940 in Ocala, FL to Margaret and Harry McDonell. The family moved to Texarkana, TX where George graduated from Texas High School and East Texas State University with a degree in Social Justice. George worked for 18 years as a police officer and investigator in Texarkana, then moved back to High Springs and Gainesville as a Classification Specialist for the Florida Department of Corrections until he retired in 2003. George was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, folk crafts, attending Scottish Games and exploring genealogy.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Cruse McDonell, sister Diane McDonell of High Springs, son George McDonell of Gainesville, daughters Kelli Sewell of Alexandria, AL, and Gina O'Neail of High Springs, FL, stepdaughter Adrienne Cruse of Gainesville, grandchildren Lauren, Lacee, Tyler, Julia, Elizabeth and Aiden.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010, 11am at Queen of Peace Catholic Community, 10900 SW 24th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32607. Interment will be in Texarkana, Texas on October 13, 2010. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32606.
