GEORGE SIMONS Obituary
George W. Simons II, (68) of Gainesville, FL, passed away on March 24, 2018 after fighting a heroic battle with cancer. George was born in Tampa and grew up in Zephyrhills. He served his Country in the US Navy aboard the USS Saratoga and then relocated to Gainesville to start his 30-year career with UPS as a Package Driver. While retired, he was blessed to provide full-time care to both of his grandbabies until they started pre-school about the age of two. 'Pop' was their best buddy and loved spending time playing with Thomas the Train and watching Sesame Street with them.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara, his son Geoffrey, his daughter Katelyn, his grandchildren Bryce and Ezra, his brother Robert Simons and his sister Nina Simons Duffield.
George was a caretaker - he took care of everyone and was always the first person to step up to offer help anywhere he could. He was generous, kind, and never met a stranger. He leaves a hole in the hearts of all who loved him - we will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Park at Kanapaha Park, 7400 SW 41 Place, in Gainesville on June 3rd at 11 a.m. A potluck lunch will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society to help obliterate this horrible disease, or Haven Hospice of Gainesville who were there to help our family care for George with dignity and grace.

Just in the process of planning a trip to GA to visit my daughter and family just north of Atlanta and wanted to take an extended trip to Gainesville to visit some old stomping grounds. Worked as a package driver with George for 3 plus years before moving out of Fla. to Minn. in 1969. George was the only fellow driver that I have a memory of, lost trac of any of the others names after all these years.
I can tell from the obit and photo that he was a wonderful person, I'm not surprised as that is how I remember him as a fellow worker. I feel a bit sad having missed an opportunity to reconnect and just offer a personal prayer over family that remains here on this earth.
