Jo Hendrickson Obituary

HENDRICKSON, JO

Jo Anderson Hendrickson died on April 1, 2009. Mrs. Hendrickson was born on October 25, 1921 in Fairmount, Georgia to her parents Joe H. and Maude Madlin Anderson. She lived in Gainesville, Florida for 39 years.

Mrs. Hendrickson was married to Sam M. Hendrickson in 1939. They lived throughout the Southeast during his career with Sears and settled in Gainesville in 1970. They were married for 56 years when he predeceased her in 1996.

Mrs. Hendrickson loved her children, her home and her wonderful neighbors in the Gainesville Golf and Country Club neighborhood. She was a member of Southwest United Methodist Church.

She was a wonderful mother, lifelong avid bridge player, an inspired gardener, and a great cook. She was a member of Gainesville Golf and Country Club and volunteered at North Florida Regional Hospital for 11 years.

Mrs. Hendrickson was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Hendrickson is survived by her sister, Mary Devine of St. Louis, Missouri; her sister-in-law, Grace Anderson of Johnson City, Tennessee; her daughter, Judge Sandra H. Storm of Birmingham, AL; her son in law, Richard A. Storm, III; her son and daughter in law, Sam M. Hendrickson and Donna Hendrickson of Birmingham, AL; her granddaughters, Shannon Johnson and Misty Appling and her great grandson, Benjamin Appling, all who reside in Birmingham.

Mrs. Hendrickson is also survived by her dear friend, Mr. Ralph Butts of Gainesville, Florida.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Mausoleum at Forest Meadows Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 4:00 P.M, Rev. Tami Higdon officiating.

The family wishes to thank Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida and New Beacon Hospice of Birmingham, Alabama for their support. Special thanks to Denora Dozier for her loving care of our mother in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to Southwest United Methodist Church, 2400 Williston Road, Gainesville, FL 32608 or to a charity of your choice.

Jo was a wonderful woman with a great spirit about her. It was always a pleasure to see her smiling face when she and Ralph came to visit us at Bonefish. She will be missed.
