MICHAEL JOSEPH, 47
Gainesville, FL - Michael Joseph Carreiro, 47, of Gainesville, FL was tragically taken from his family on March 31st. Mike was well known for his big personality and even bigger heart, his tireless work ethic, his sense of humor and devotion to his family and friends. He was a loving and beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.
Born in Danbury, CT on July 23, 1966 to Maria Carreiro and the late Adelino Carreiro (2012), Mike was a celebrated soccer player at Danbury High School, earning a soccer scholarship to Jacksonville University. After graduating with his Bachelor's Degree, Mike worked for many years at Kraft, where he was recognized for his outstanding work by earning 2005 Sales Representative of the Year. Having worked construction with his father during college, Mike was also a skilled craftsman, and while working full-time at Kraft, he constantly helped family and friends with home and business renovations. So, despite his success at Kraft, Mike's love of building finally led him to start his own home renovation and repair business, which he ran successfully until his untimely death.
Besides taking great pride in his work, Mike also took great joy in spending time with his family and friends, watching sports, playing golf and volunteering his time at Habitat for Humanity and Children's Home Society.
Mike is survived by his mother, Maria; his sister Sandy (David); and his nephew Ryan. He is also survived by his uncles Evaristo Lima (Lena), Carlos Benevides (Conciecao) and Jose Carreiro (Cesaltina); aunts Linda Sousa, Maria Jennings, Fernanda Marek (Bill), and Cesaltina Carreiro (Adelino). He is also survived by many loving cousins and friends in the US, Portugal and Bermuda, and his beloved dog Duke.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8th at 11:00 am at Greenhouse Church, 2925 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Mike's memory to Children's Home Society at 711 NW 1st Street, Gainesville, FL 32601. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. My deepest condolences go out to Mike's family during the extremely sad time. Mike and I used to work together at Kraft/ Nabisco back in the day. I always remembered Mike's larger than life personality that always lightened up our monthly sales meetings. I remember running his sales route one time when he went on vacation and him not leaving me a vacation schedule. He would call me every morning and tell me where to go LOL. That was Mike.... I will miss you old friend:(

Heart broken, shocked and devastated over the loss of you. You were taken from us but will never be forgotten. Your name comes up when ever I talk to the many DHS Soccer player up here. I have to smile every time I think of the parties, England, 2nd period breakfast, Your awesome powder blue "LUV" truck, games at Osborne/Westconn and all your yellow & red cards.
