PAULA UHRIG Obituary

UHRIG, PAULA M.
Paula M. Uhrig died on January 9, 2019 in Gainesville Florida at the age of 91. She was born in LeMars Iowa at home on their family farm on April 12, 1927 to George and Elvira Schnepf. She taught country school and then graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls and taught Business subjects at Ames High School. Paula met her husband, Bob (Dr. Robert E. Uhrig) when he was a graduate student at Iowa State University.
Paula and Bob initially moved to Gainesville in 1960. They also lived in West Point NY, Ames IA, Washington D.C., Miami FL, Tequesta FL, Oak Ridge TN and returned to Gainesville in 1998. Paula was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church, the University Women's Club and numerous embroidery, garden and dinner groups. She was a Master Gardener. She was a world traveler, traveling with her husband extensively in Europe as well as Russia, China, India, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, Australia and Canada as well as throughout the United States.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Bob) of 58 years, her sisters Georgia Schnepf and Margaret Flinn and her brother John Schnepf. She is survived by her seven children, Robert (Susan) of Lake Mary FL, Joseph of Gainesville FL, Mary Floyd (Mike) of Gainesville, FL, Charles (Sylvia) of Tampa FL, Jean McKenzie (Tom) of Fleming Island FL, Thomas (Sara) of Tequesta FL and Fredrick of Palm Harbor FL. She had nine grandchildren, Katherine and Matthew Floyd, Christopher and Stephanie Uhrig, Christina Rieder, Rachel and Sarah Uhrig and Hallie and Jessica Uhrig, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Floyd ('the Sweetheart'). She is survived by one brother Karl Schnepf (Joan) of LeMars Iowa.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 9:30 am at Holy Faith Catholic Church. Private family burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that any contributions be made to Haven Hospice, Gainesville FL. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 352-378-2528.
