ROBERT WALLACE Obituary

WALLACE, JR., ROBERT GEORGE 'BOB'
Wallace, Robert George Jr. (Bob) passed away December 13, 2015. Bob was born in Chicago in 1930 to his loving parents, Robert George Wallace Sr. and Martha Murphree Wallace. His ancestors helped settle North Florida in the 1800's. He was the grandson of Albert A. Murphree, the first president of the University of Florida in Gainesville. After his father's illness, the family relocated to Gainesville and Bob (known then as Bobby) attended P.K. Young School, graduating in 1948. He attended the University of Florida before enlisting in the US Army in 1951 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He served as second lieutenant and tank platoon commander in the Korean War. Bob was awarded the bronze star for valor on January 14, 1954. After the war he moved to Coral Gables to live with his mother and stepfather, Walter Garret Troxler (Dick). He graduated from the University of Miami in 1955 and entered the brokerage business in New York where he met the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Cecelia Batten Wallace from Mt. Gilead North Carolina, affectionately known to friends and family as PeeWee.
Bob started his career as a security analyst for Merrill Lynch and also worked for Faulkner, Dawkins, and Sullivan in NYC before moving to Atlanta with his family in 1969 to become Sr. Vice President of Citizens and Southern Investment Counseling, Inc. He later served as director of pension asset management at Eastern Airlines and moved permanently to Miami in 1988 to become partner and portfolio manager at Invesco Capital Management in Coral Gables. He retired from Invesco in 1995.
He is survived by his wife Cecelia; daughters Elizabeth and Susan; grandsons Aaron Geer, Robert Allen, and Samuel Allen; and great granddaughter Elora Geer. He is also survived by his sister Jennie Stringfellow (Jim) and many cousins. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor and a strong moral compass who treated everyone with dignity and respect. He loved playing golf and being in the company of friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private ceremony will be held in his honor.
