Mrs. Ruby L. Gainey, 85, passed away March 10, 2021 at UF Health Shands Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Minter, Alabama, she moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1961. Mrs. Gainey retired from N.F.E.T.C. as a shift su[1]pervisor. She also served as a school crossing guard. Mrs. Gainey was preceded in death by her husband, Napoleon Gainey, and daugh[1]ter Shirley Ann Williams. She was a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E Church, where she served in the choir. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children; Carrie Lee Reynolds of Selma, Alabama, Mary Etta Jenkins of Minneapolis, Min[1]nesota, Ernestine Fletcher (Ron) of Gainesville, Florida. Her 5 grandchildren; Terrence Gulley (LaTasha), Lisa Campbell (James), Katrina Davis-Pacw (Gary), Karenia Davis, and Derek Hutchinson (Candice). Her twenty-three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Graveside services for Mrs. Gainey will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East, with Reverend Ronald Rawls offi ciating. Visitation will be held on Friday March 19, 2021 from 2:00PM – 7:00PM at the Chestnut Memorial Chapel and on Saturday at the graveside one hour before the service. Family members are asked to meet at the home of Mrs. Gainey, 2010 N.E. 8th Ave at 10:15AM to form the cortege. Social Distancing and wearing a facial mask will be enforced in regards to the CDC and the Alachua County Emergency Order, 2020-05. If you do not have a facial mask, one will be provided for you by a member of the Chestnut Funeral Home Staff
