Stephen Elwood Obituary

Stephen Russel Elwood
Stephen Russel Elwood, aged 79, passed peacefully into the next world on Saturday, September 26, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents Stephen Elwood Sr. and Ruth Elwood. He is survived by Susan Elwood, his wife of 56 years, sons Stephen Elwood (Vickie) , Kenneth Elwood (Melissa), granddaughter Haley and sister Carole McDavid.
Steve grew up in Gainesville and as a boy worked in his father's general store where he learned the values of independence, hard work and taking good care of customers. He applied those values in his career as a Real Estate Broker and business owner. He was one of the most respected businessmen in Gainesville. Together with Carol Bosshardt he started Bosshardt-Elwood Realty Services and later entered into business as a sole proprietor as Elwood Realty Services. Known for his vision and innovation, Steve. worked with builders and developers in designing neighborhoods, and developed novel analytical tools for valuing property. His advice was prized by builders, lenders and colleagues.
As his advice was sought in his professional life, so his company was sought in his private life by all those who met him. A self-taught piano player, Steve loved to entertain his friends and was a great conversationalist. He has a dedicated family man and a steadfast friend.

Buck was a special person, gifted in so many aspects. He lived with a smile and possessed one of the most magnetic personalities I've ever known.

Bucky was extremely talented. He was incredibly funny and had more personality in his little finger than most did in their entire body. I have nothing but fond memories of our childhood. His mother was the niece of our grandmother.

To Aunt Suzie, Stevie, Kenny, and family,
Our family sends heartfelt condolences on the loss of Uncle Buck, and pray for comfort and solace in your time of loss.
He will be remembered in the fondest of memories, and know that he is enjoying the big Grand piano in heaven playing his favorites for Christ, Nanny Ruth, Papa Steve, my Mom Sally, and the rest of our kin.
God bless you all and be well.
Sincerely,
Jeff, Elizabeth, Joshua, and Abigail Elwood

I worked with Steve for many years when I entered the real estate profession. He was a mentor to me over the years. He was always kind, had a great laugh, enjoyed telling stories, and was a friend. As a consummate professional, and an asset to our profession, he will be missed. My prayers are with his family in the coming days.

Steve was a real gentleman in every way. My late husband, Howard Wallace, and I relied on Steve’s wisdom and experience for many years in developing many neighborhoods in GaInesville. He was a good hearted kind man who will be missed.

My condolences to Susie, Kenny, Stevie, and Carole. I have so many memories of "Buckie" from when I was a child. My first memory of him was when I was 4 yrs old, and he was quite a "matchmaker".... He told me my Mom was going to marry a neighbor, just teasing me, then he had to "bribe" me with a quarter, which did not work as I was crying big tears. Mom said, "you started it and your going to finish it"! He was always trying to help my family. He and Susie were always fun to be around and so very thoughtful. I think he built a gold fish pond behind the store. He was always busy creating/making things. I have fond memories of growing up around "Steve's Grocery". Your family will be in my prayers.

Steve has brought joy and love to so many people in his lifetime. As he passes to the next life he is remembered by so many with love. I will always remember his infectious laugh as he had a great sense of humor. He helped so many find the home of their dreams. The buyers had great expe riences as his first wish was to make them happy. The best memories were from when he took everyone out to eat breakfast or lunch or dinner. He loved to dine out with family, friends and his fellow realtors. Bonnie Mott, Steve and I went to lunch frequently talking about old times. Steve loved his family and cherished his wife, Suzy. He will be greatly missed.
