Walter Camps Obituary
Bishop Walter Camps, Sr., 74 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2007. He was born in Jonesville, Florida.
He received his formal education through the Alachua County public school system. He worked in various occupations later retiring after twenty years from Regional Transit System.
Bishop Camps established Holy Temple of God in 1975 which was the first church in Keystone Heights, Florida. He has several churches in Florida, Georgia and Illinois. He has been faithful in the services of the Lord, busy doing kingdom work.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and caring wife, Wilma Bloneeze, five daughters: Belinda Mims (Harold), Dallas, Texas; Terrilyn Janet Camps-Boone, Gainesville, Florida; Frances Marilyn Crawford (Sidney), Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Beverly Crawford (Todd), Gainesville, Florida; Evelyn Camps, Dallas, Texas; two sons: Walter Camps, Jr.(Claudia), Gainesville, Florida; Alfred Camps (Beatrice), Gainesville, Florida; three sisters: Jesse Mae McKnight (Bishop James E. McKnight); Pearlie Sanders, Janie Sanford (Horace); one brother John C. Camps, Orlando, Florida; seven brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends.
The Homegoing Celebration will be held Monday, December 24, 2007 at 12:00 Noon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2505 NE 8th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida, Elder Jonathan McKnight, officiating. Burial will follow in Newnans Lake Church of God by Faith Cemetery under the care of Chestnut Funeral Home, 18 NW 8th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida. Visitation for Bishop Camps will be on Sunday in the Chestnut Chapel from 1:00-5:30 PM; followed by visitation and wake service from 6:30-8:30 PM at Church of God by Faith, Gainesville and on Monday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church from 10:30 AM until the hour of the service. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Landmark Holy Temple of God, Post Office Box 975, Gainesville, Florida 32602. The cortege will form at Landmark Holy Temple of God at 11:15 AM.

I can hardly come to the reality that Bishop Camps has gone to meet God. Bishop Camps was my Bishop for almost thirty years. He was truly a man of integrity. He was a great preacher,singer,leader and motivator. I thank God for the blessings He has allowed me to experience through this Man of God. I pray that the Camps family be strengthened at this time. You will always be one of my icons as a performer. I have grown up watching and listening to you from a little boy running around in Copeland and through the years you never cease to amaze me. Chachita, I miss the school bus rides and silly times in class. We all know that Bishop is resting in the bosom of the Master.

The Labor of Bishop Camps has left an indelible impression in our lives. Dear loving family, I can't begin to express my deepest sympathy. I am so sorry that I want be able to attend the funeral;however my heart will be there. Your family was there for me sometimes when my mom was not there for me. Elder camps was my POPS too. He called me little Sharon Yvonne Clark.Walter and Alfered you were like my uncles, and all the beautiful girls were like my aunts. The scrub boards I remember the most at the church in Porters.
