SIEBEIN, WALTER ALOIS
(1925-2016)
Walter Alois Siebein of Gainesville, Florida and Kent, Connecticut died with his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy, and granddaughter Keely at his side on Wednesday morning, June 8, 2016 at the age of 90.
He was born on December 24, 1925 in New York City to his parents Alois Siebein and Sophie Stampfel Siebein of Queens, New York. He married Margaret Veronica (Peggy) Ward Siebein, daughter of Joseph and Margaret Ward of Queens, New York on March 28, 1948. Walter and Peggy just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Walter is survived by wife Peggy, 4 children, Gary, Glenn, Kerry and Maura; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, daughters-in-law Rita and Ja Young and son-in-law Rich. Walter was a dedicated husband, inspirational Father and beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. He was proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always offered praise and encouragement to all as they progressed through life. He guided them with love, faith, optimism and a contagious enthusiasm for work, play and family.
Walter attended Jamaica High School where he excelled academically. He attended Cornell University, Trinity College and graduated from Columbia University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering His college studies were interrupted by service during World War II and the Korean War as a Lieutenant J.G. in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the U.S.S. Rogers.
Walter loved playing golf, walking, reading, volunteering as a tax preparer and at the volunteer fire department in High Springs. He was a friend to his family and to all of his neighbors, engaging them in conversation as he walked his dog and did chores in the yard. His fun loving personality, warmth, humility, good nature and active intelligence were admired by all who knew him.
He worked for several engineering firms. He held several patents and was a Senior Program Manager and Chief Engineer.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Forest Meadows Cemetery at 4100 NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida 32606.
