Douglas "Doug" Crow Tanner,
Mr. Douglas "Doug" Crow Tanner, 82, of Gainesville, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 13, at Memorial Park South Chapel. Interment followed at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Rev. Jim Austin & Rev. James Merritt will officiate. The family received friends from 12:00 p.m., to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 13, at Memorial Park South Funeral Home. Mr. Tanner was born February 20, 1939, to the late Hoke & Verna Tanner in Clarkston, Georgia. He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Morlock and her husband, Raymond; his brother-in-law, Donald Parks; and his nephew, Patrick Parks. He is survived by many loving family members, including his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Bales Tanner; his son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Mary Tanner of Suwanee, Georgia, and their children, Marilla, Michaela and Miles Tanner; his son, Scott Tanner of Gainesville, his son & daughter-in-law, Greg & Molly Tanner of Marietta, and their children, Lydia and George Tanner; his daughter & son-in-law, Kelly & Josh Austin of Gainesville, and their children, Eli, Jaxon and Carter Austin; his son & daughter-in-law, Jody & Briana Tanner of Braselton, and their expectant child, Dean Tanner (due in March 2022); his son, Casey Tanner of Gainesville, his brother & sister-in-law, Gene & Martha Tanner of Augusta, his sister, Nell Parks of Gainesville, his brother & sister-in-law, James & Martha Tanner of Gainesville, his brother & sister-in-law, Larry & Ann Tanner of Gainesville, nieces, Beth Kroening, Julie Wells, Michelle Dowdy and Gina Adams; nephews, David Tanner, Stephen Tanner and Chad Tanner; and numerous cousins and other beloved extended family members. Doug received his Associate's degree from Truett-McConnell College, where he was president of the Baptist Student Union; History degree from Baylor University; and Law degree from Atlanta Law School. A man of many talents and solid business acumen, Doug went on to become a successful real estate developer in the Northeast Georgia area. He was admired by many for his strong work ethic but even more so as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His favorite hobbies included reading and cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Baylor Bears. One of his favorite pastimes was driving through the mountains with his wife since their dating days. He also poured countless hours into coaching little league sports for his children. Doug loved Jesus and was a devoted Christian. He was the embodiment of Christ's love through his actions, how he carried himself, and his words. He touched so many lives - more than he ever knew.
