Eugene Shockley Obituary
He will be remembered as "Gene" and was born in Carroll County, Va.
He was the son of the late Clerin Eugene and Wilma Hicks Shockley; the brother of the late Judith Shockley Parson; and uncle of the late Tracy Lott.
Eugene was a member and trustee of the Hillsville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
He was also a current member of the Hillsville Masonic Lodge No. 193 A.F. & A.M. Hillsville Chapter No. 71 and Order of the Eastern Star. He was very active in his Local Chapter, the State Chapter and the International Chapter. He had been a member of the Roanoke Scottish Rites Body, Kazim Shrine Temple and the Galax Elks Lodge No. 2212.
Eugene worked for 46 years as a banker in Carroll County.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Vickie Shockley Ross and Dale. Eugene was uncle to Patrick Ross, Katherine Ross, Susan DeVoe, Regina Smith and Randy Jacobs.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at the Hillsville Christian Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Amanda Hatfield Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Dalton Hill Cemetery. Order of the Eastern Star services will be conducted by the Hillsville Chapter No. 71, Order of the Eastern Star at the church as part of the service. Masonic rites will be presented at the graveside by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge No. 193 A.F. & A.M. The family received friends at the Hillsville Christian Church on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Hardly seems like it could have been over 4 years since we lost Eugene, just as we were gathering for another class reunion. More of our classmates have passed since then, and we will miss all of them, always.

Eugene was a close friend with a tender heart. I loved to hear him laugh. He always tried to do right by people he delt with. We started first grade together and graduated high school together. He loved his family and his true friends. I was blessed to be able to call him friend. Louise Harmon

To the Shockley Family
Please accept my deepest smypathy in the loss of Eugene. He was my supervisor when he worked at Rooftop of Va. He was very kind to me and I enjoyed working with him. I knew him long before that as Sharon Notchie was related to him and she was my best friend the latter part of high school Sometimes Eugene would "Ride Around" with us on the weekends. He gave me roses for my birthday wile I worked with him. He was always thoughtful and considerate to me. I will miss him just knowing he is no longer with us. I hope you will take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain.
I just learned of his passing last night or I would have come to the funeral. May God comfort his family and friends and give them peace.

To the Shockley Family - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Eugene. We worked for competitor banks for several years in the Hillsville area and became good friends over the years. Eugene was a true gentleman and was well respected in the business community. He will be missed. My prayers and thoughts are with the family during this time of loss.

I just opened up the Carroll News and saw Eugene's obituary. I was shocked and sorry to see that he had passed. I met him years ago and it's been years since I've seen him. I liked him. I'll always remember his help at the Bank of Carroll with a particular problem I had at the time. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Eugene was one of the nicest friends a person could have. He would help you any way he could and he often did. He never expected anything in return but to be a friend. I was blessed to have him as my friend.
