Josephine Stringer Obituary

Josephine "Jo" Stringer, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on March 20, 2017, in Ashe County.
She was born on July 23, 1929, in Ashe County to the late Joseph Clark "J C" Brown and Marjorie "Margie" Williams Brown.
Jo was a talented beautician/hairdresser for over 60 years, having been the owner/operator of Jo's Beauty Salon in West Jefferson until her retirement for health reasons in April of 2008.
She was devoted to her family and friends, always sharing her wonderful pecan tarts with everyone she knew. She was an extremely good cook, cooking for her family and friends on Thursday nights for many, many years, always enjoying the company they provided.
She also had a true love for fishing, gardening, canning vegetables, crocheting dish cloths, making quilts and afgans, playing cards, traveling, cracking pecans and making those wonderful pecan tarts and rhubarb pies.
She had a "green thumb" when it came to gardening, always making certain to plant enough to share with others.
Jo had a strong and devoted love of God and was a faithful member of Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church in West Jefferson, where she was a long-time member of the church choir and women of the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. "Pappy" and Margie Brown; husband, Harold "Bud" Stringer; sister, Evelyn Brown Shoemaker Reel; infant sister, Martha Brown; in-laws, Jimmy Allen, Sharpe Shoemaker; Harry Reel; Hoyle Stringer and wife, Ruth; June Stringer Woodruff Reeves and husbands, John Woodruff and Wayne Reeves; and Iva Jean Stringer Bare.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Deborah Epperson Stringer of Galax, Va., and Mount Airy, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Sidney Isenhour of Taylorsville, N.C.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Stringer, and Mary S.
