Joseph G. Hamlin Jr.

Joseph G. Hamlin, Jr., age 82 of DuBois, PA died Monday, September 8, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.

Born on October 9, 1942 in Asheville, NC, he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Kathryn (Snelson) Hamlin, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally A. (Shaffer) Hamlin.

Joe retired from the United States Navy with the rank of Master Chief after an over 30-year decorated career serving our country. After his retirement from the Navy, Joe worked as a Human Resource Manager for 15 years at Milkco in Asheville, NC.

Joe was a devoted submariner, often chosen for special projects that took him to every continent, including destinations like the Antarctic, Middle East, and East Asia. In later years, Joe developed passions for woodworking, gardening, and genealogy, and was an enthusiastic supporter of UNC basketball, the Commanders, Steelers, and Arsenal FC. Later in life he also developed a passion for reading and read close to a thousand books. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, and his willingness to provide a helping hand to anyone in need.

A devoted family man, Joe cherished spending time with immediate and extended family, but especially his three grandchildren. His wife Sally will miss him greatly but she is comforted by 57 years of happy memories.

Along with his wife, Joe is survived by his children (Christine Wolfe and her husband Ron of Richmond, VA, Joseph G. Hamlin, III of Bend, OR, and Jeff Hamlin and his wife Kristin of Richmond, VA), three grandchildren (Carter and Cole Hamlin, and Sofia Wolfe), two sisters (Mollie Johnson and Joan Davey) and one brother (Ken Hamlin).

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister (Marsha Thomas).
