Leonard Templeton Obituary
Leonard "Len" Dennis Templeton, 84, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025 at York Hospital. Born on May 12, 1941, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, Len was the beloved son of the late Julia Toth Templeton and George Calvin Templeton.
Len grew up in Madera, Pennsylvania, and was a proud graduate of Moshannon Joint High School. His life was marked by dedication to family, generosity to friends and neighbors, and a strong work ethic.
Len enjoyed a successful career in telephone installation, working for Henkels & McCoy Electronics, NTE, and retiring from General Telephone and Electronics. He was recognized for his courage when he saved the life of a choking person while on the job.
In 1959, Len enjoyed many conversations with President Dwight D. Eisenhower while installing the president's numerous phone systems in Gettysburg.
Len is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Shirley (Rowles) Templeton; his two daughters, Susan Templeton Seiple and her husband, Dean James Seiple Jr., and Stephaney Ann Crumling and her husband, Matthew Alan Crumling; and his treasured grandchildren, Savannah Seiple and Lucas Crumling, and bonus grandchild, Chatney Knapp. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Batts; his younger brother, Donald Templeton; Jody Bailor, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley Thomas; and his brother, Bill Templeton.
Len attended Grace Baptist Church in York, Pennsylvania. Known for his selflessness, Len often helped his neighbors with wiring, painting, home repairs, mowing lawns, and shoveling snow - always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Len shared many memorable times with his dear friends Richard Mosley, and Pete Simmers, who preceded him in death, and friend, Gary Urey.
Len had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his stone house in Clearfield County. In his younger years, he excelled at baseball and continued his passion for sports through Southern York county fast pitch softball and Susquehanna and Central League baseball.
Len's life was filled with acts of kindness and dedication to his family and community. We find comfort that he is now with his Saviour, Jesus.
A celebration of Len's life will be held on July 12 at Kuhner A. Funeral Directors and Associates, Inc. 863 South George Street, York, PA, 17403 at 9 AM including visitation with family, followed by a 9:30 service and luncheon after.
A special memorial service will be held in Clearfield County at a later date.
