Alice Ammons

Alice Jean Bell Ammons, 95, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017.

She was born August 31, 1922, daughter of the late Clarence Carl Bell and Lanie Pasour Bell of Gastonia. She was the widow of Fred Theodore Ammons of Dallas.

She was predeceased by brother, Frank V. Bell; and by sisters, Janice Bell Tino, Zelda Bell Hastings, Evelyn Bell Gonsolin, Sarah Bell Deener and Lucy Bell Wilson.

She is survived by brothers, Haskell R. Bell of Tennsessee and Donald Deitz Bell of Maryland.

Mrs. Ammons graduated from Gastonia High School in 1940 and attended business school before enlisting in the U.S. Army WAC during World War II. She served on Angel Island, San Francisco, CA, and was honorably discharged in March 1946. Upon return home from service, she was employed by Firestone/Bridgestone in Gastonia for 35 years.

In retirement, Mrs. Ammons remained active in community and church. She served as a volunteer with the Gaston Memorial Auxiliary. She was a big Atlanta Braves fan. To many nieces and nephews, she remains a beloved aunt who lived an amazing 95 years. A collector of angels, she herself has been collected to that heavenly realm where she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of Robin Johnson House in Dallas for their kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, they request charitable donations be made to Robin Johnson House in Dallas or to Fairview Baptist Church in Gastonia.

The family will receive guests at McLean Funeral Directors from 10 until 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 11. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Park, with Pastor Greg Ballard officiating.
