Brett Hudson Obituary

GASTONIA - On the wings of love Brett was born as an identical twin with his brother, Cameron, April 30, 1984.

At 26 years old, on May 3rd, Brett suffered a cardiac arrest at Presbyterian Hospital resulting in severe brain damage. While Brett had just successfully survived a bone marrow transplant at Duke Medical Center which was his third, he survived 5 more months in a minimally conscious state. With great regret and enormous rejoicing, we released Brett from the bonds of this earth, October 11, 2010.

Brett was the youngest twin in the nation to receive a bone marrow transplant in 1986 from his twin brother and the first twin ever to survive 3 trans-plants. He was also the first twin to survive them at different stages in his life: as a baby, then 13 years later as a teenager and now, 13 years later as a young man. Brett's medical miracles are documented at Duke Medical Center and have already made history as an amazing life that carried a su-premely strong spirit. As Brett's doctor said, "Brett controlled what his body endured" and that "we would see the results of Brett's life in future medical journals." During Brett's isolation following the third transplant, he wrote his autobiography, "The Unconquered Twin" which is yet to be published. Brett's journey here was an unendurable, wordless agony for us all, but Brett breezed through with the Holy Spirit's power never complaining or giving up. He had a gentle, sweet spirit with loving laughter that touched everyone. He was truly a pure spirit sent to show us the way to live.

Those who really know him recognized the spiritual powerhouse he brought to this earth for such a time as this. Brett walked with God and told us " Jesus had nothing else but God and you have nothing else but God." Brett graduated 1 year early from high school going onto Old Dominion University and graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a BA in Political Science. He worked for Wells-Fargo in Charlotte, NC as a Mortgage Adjuster. Brett was a member of the US Chess Federation in Washington, DC becoming the #2 player in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Brett is survived by his identical twin brother, Cameron, parents Byron & Maria Hudson, brother, Buddy Thomas, sister, Carol Seagraves, grand-mothers, Fayrine Vause and Dorothy Hudson, nieces and nephews Laura and Quinn Thomas, Lindsey, Paxton and Brandon Seagraves.

A Celebration of Brett's Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, October 14, at Central Church of God, 5301 Sardis Road in Charlotte, following a private bur-ial between twin trees at Calvary Church's Magnolia Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations for the publishing of Brett's book will be received at www.caringbridge.org/visit/bretthudson where details of Brett's journey can be read online.

Dear Hudson Family,
I did not personally know your son, Brett, but I do know of Cameron from work. I am honored to have read about Brett's journey, his amazing faith, and his relationship with all of you. I will forever be touched by this story!! My heart hurts for all of you because of your physical loss, but I rejoice with you, too, because Brett is now living his life to the fullest with our Heavenly Father - Thank you, Jesus! So sorry to hear that Brett has come to the end of his journey. He has faught hard and long with the battle of leukemia that most people wouldn't had come this far. God put meaning in his life to help other be able to fight as hard as he did. To give them hope to see that even with a deadly diease you can have a normal life. Brett never seemed to let it get him down.. When other's seen him he always had a smile on his face and never gave up on knowing that God would see him through.. I'm here if you need anything just give me a call 704 879 4579. Love you Irma Gore Buchanan..
