Mildred Curry

GASTONIA - Mildred Beatrice Smarr Curry, 97, of 930 North Highland St., departed this life on Oct. 23, 2011.

She was born June 5, 1914, in York County, daughter of the late Walter and Ella Nichols Smarr.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mills Chapel Holiness Church, 1017 N. Boyce St., Gastonia.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mildred was a member of Mills Chapel Holiness Church for 66 years. She did domestic work for the O.G. Penegar family for 50 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Bernice E. Curry of Gastonia; two sisters, Virleen Littlejohn of Gastonia and Marie Smarr of York, S.C.; eight grandchil-dren, the Rev. William Thompson (Sallie) of Grover, Merita Tennyson, Wilmon L. Curry (Annie) and Lester William Curry (Dorothy), all of Stone Moun-tain, Ga., Danny L. Curry, James W. Smith Jr., Ronald Joe Curry (Celina) and Veronica Ann Neely (Michael), all of Gastonia; former daughter-in-law, Mary Helen Curry of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 24 great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grands, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special caregivers, Janette Meeks and Veronica Smarr; special cousin, Sallie Mae Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmon Link Curry and son, Willie D. Curry.

Pastor Johnny Brown and pastor William Thompson will be officiating.
