Amalie MacDonald Obituary

Amalie MacDonald was a loving wife and mother. She was born to Alois and Amalie Huber on July 14, 1929 in Haag, Germany and grew up there, raised by her mother after her father went to war and never returned from the Russian Front. She later moved to Erding, Germany and got a job working in the Army Air Force Exchange Service as a cashier. There she met the love of her life, Robert J. MacDonald. They married on November 2, 1951. He was a young Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and Amalie came to the United States as a war bride in 1952. They had two sons, Ronald J. and Robert D. MacDonald. As the wife and mother of an Air Force family, Amalie moved to many places, including Albuquerque, New Mexico; Tokyo, Japan; Amarillo, Texas; Sembach, Germany; Aviano, Italy; and San Bernardino, California. She moved to Colorado Springs with her family in 1971. When her husband CMSgt Robert MacDonald retired in July of 1976, they chose to keep Colorado Springs as their permanent home and have resided here for 34 years. Amalie enjoyed bowling and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. She especially loved watching birds and squirrels or "critters" as she called them. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Junior MacDonald; their sons Ronald and his wife Karen of Auburn, California and Robert and his wife Debra of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren: Brian MacDonald of New Galileo, Pennsylvania; Matthew MacDonald of Chico, California; Craig MacDonald of Colorado Springs; Chris MacDonald of Chico; and Laura MacDonald of Colorado Springs; a brother Erwin Huber of Haag, Germany; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Amalie, and granddaughter Cheryl MacDonald. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Shrine of Remembrance. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Gate of Heaven mausoleum.
