Springfield, MA — Edward Abram Owens, also known as Eddie "Red Top" Owens, of Springfield, MA passed away peacefully on February 25, 2022 at the age of 81. Pre-deceased by his loving wife Eleanor Owens and beloved son Edward E. Owens (ex. Wife Terry Thomas), he is survived by his children: Elizabeth A Daniels, Dennis Owens, Andrea Owens-Bachmann (Robert), Lisa Owens, Alvin L Heard, Delinda Baymon-Dykes (Clarence) Valerie Owens-Thomas (Demetrius), Mary Frances Owens and Richard A Cox; grandchildren: Dennis LP Daniels, Alvin Heard Jr., Edward E. Owens II, Cassandra Ruth Heard, John W Daniels, Clarence L. Dykes, Quintin A. Dykes, Shelbi Dixon-Tobicoe (Cameron), Tristan Dixon, Monique Heard, Tianna Heard, and Devon Owens-Heywood and Great-Grandchildren Jeremiah W. Dykes, Zayari M Dykes, JaeCeon M Dykes, Amiyah R Dykes, Quintin A Dykes Jr., Clarence L Dykes Jr., and Major Willie Dykes and Baby Bryce Daniels.

Also predeceased by his parents William Abram and Frankie Mae Owens-Buck and three siblings William Owens, David Owens and Wannetta Thompson, he is survived by his brothers Louie Owens (Mary) and sisters: Minniett Westbrook, Jonnie M. Starnes, Mary Lou Seibles (James), Denise Brown, Rosabell Dotson, Delores Dotson, Melinda Dotson, and Weyman Dotson (Gloria) as well as a host of nieces and nephews and a Special Dear Friends Ruth Heard and Alexander Muhamad.

Eddie "Red Top" Owens is well known for his 14-year professional boxing career and is commemorated for his seven-year reign as New England Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Throughout his professional boxing career, "Red Top" traveled the world and had boxing bouts in Africa, Europe, South America, England, as well as various cities within the United States. "Red Top" also served proudly as Deputy Sheriff with the Hampden County Sheriff's Office where he touched numerous lives and helped many people.

Upon his retirement from the Hampden County Sheriff's Office and during his spare time, "Red Top" especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, chopping wood and playing cards. "Red Top" embraced the good in all people and in all things. He was adored by all who knew him. His humility, kindness, generosity and hospitality will be forever remembered. May he rest in peace and have eternal life in Heaven.

John 6:40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." Amen.

Just heard about Eddies death he was my dads Vito´s fighter for most of he´s career but also a good friend to my dad. My condolences to the Owens family feel terrible that our family didn´t get a chance to say goodbye. RIP "Red Top"

I became familiar with "Top" in my youth at the Holyoke Boys' Club where he trained, later at the courthouse where we would run into one another from time to time. He took an interest in me and always gave me good advice! Sincere condolences to the family.
