Eleanor Kennedy Obituary
WHATELY- Eleanor Joan Kennedy, 100, of 76 Chestnut Plain Road, Whately, died Monday, Nov. 26, in Overlook at Northampton. She was born in Northampton, Aug. 13, 1912, the daughter of Arthur and Valarie (Simoneau) Moisan. She was educated in Northampton schools and graduated from Northampton High School, Class of 1931, later graduating from HOlyoke Hospital School of Nursing in 1934.
Eleanor married Roger D. Kennedy Oct. 1, 1935, in Sacred Heart Church, Northampton. All of their married life was spent in Whately. Roger predeceased her in 1969. She was Whately's oldest resident.
She was a former member of St. James Church, Frontier Senior Center and an avid bingo and card player. She did volunteer work at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
She leaves one son, Roger D. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Lise, of Whately; one daughter, Katherine "Kit" Fleuriel and her husband, Paul, of Whately; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A grandson, J.R. Fleuriel, predeceased her May 12, 2012.
Donations in Eleanor's memory may be made to Whately Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 802, Whately, MA 01093. There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass will take place, with a date and time to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wrisley Funeral HOme, Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church in South Deerfield, celebrated by Fr. Philippe Roux, Pastor.
A calling hour at the Wrisley Funeral Home will be at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, Northampton.
