Julia Korowski Obituary

FLORENCE - Julia (Mazur) Korowski, 91, formerly of 8 Greeley Ave., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her son Joseph and her sister Statia were at her side.

Julia was born March 24, 1922, in Hadley, the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Misch) Mazur. She was raised and educated in Hadley and graduated from Hopkins Academy.

In her younger years she worked at Smith College and periodically as a census taker. Additionally, she spent multiple decades as a day-care provider for children in her home.

Julia was an independent person and was very self-reliant. She did her own yard work well into her 80s, including shoveling snow and mowing her lawn. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her daily walks to Look Park were one of the high points of her day. She enjoyed her time outdoors, gardening, traveling to New Hampshire to visit with her son and his family, and trips to Hampton Beach.

Julia will be remembered for her positive attitude and endearing smile. She was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Florence.

She leaves her son Joseph Korowski and his wife Janice of Hampton, N.H.; her daughter Annette Korowski; her grandsons Craig Korowksi and his wife Jayne and Joseph Lavaud; and granddaughters Kristin Korowski and Melanie Lavaud. She also leaves her dear sisters Statia Skwira of Haydenville, Victoria Cajthaml of Dover, Del., and Cecelia Cajthaml of Tampa, Fla., six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Joseph who passed away in 1978, Julia was predeceased by her brothers John, Charles, Joseph and Philip Mazur and sister Elizabeth Pasternak.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Florence. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton.

Donations in Julia's memory may be made to VNA Hospice of Cooley Dickinson, 168 Industrial Drive, Northampton, MA, or Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 548 Elm St., Northampton, MA.
