Mary Mcgrath Obituary

MARY "GINGER" MCGRATH

Northampton, MA - Mary Virgina Bouthilette McGrath of Washington Ave., known to all who knew and loved her as "Ginger", passed away at the Care One Rehab Center in Northampton after a short stay, surrounded by her family on Friday, October 3, 2025.

She was born and raised in Northampton on May 4, 1930 to the late Gerald and Anna (Faulkner) Bouthilette along with her three sisters and brother. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1947 where she met her husband, Brad McGrath. They were married on June 2, 1951 and spent 67 wonderful years together until his passing in 2018. Despite her husband's recognized community popularity as an educator, recreation director and coach she always made sure he was well dressed and prepared for his official events without expecting any gratitude. This is also how she raised her five children, always in the background of their accomplishments but silently the heart and soul of them. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who unselfishly put everyone and everything else first before herself. At family gatherings her cooking specialties of chocolate chip cookies, macaroni and cheese and baked ziti could never be duplicated by anyone else and was the talk of the party. She was a talented seamstress, an avid reader, charming communicator, beloved family hostess and creative homemaker.

She enjoyed following and supporting her children's and grandchildren's academic and athletic endeavors, spending winters with her late husband in Vero Beach, Florida and staying in touch with her many friends and relatives. She will forever be remembered for her constant generosity, kindness and beauty to all who had the pleasure of experiencing her welcoming presence during her 95 well lived years.

Ginger is survived by her five children who will miss her dearly, Patty of Easthampton, Dan and wife, Maureen of Vero Beach, Florida, son and caretaker, Jim, daughter Maureen Sawula and son Bradley and his wife, Ellen, all of Northampton, nine grandchildren who affectionately called her "G", Amy, Sarah (husband Chuck), Michael (Erin), Brian, Kevin (wife Aimee), Kristine, Allyson (fiancée Ryan), Jillian and Luke. She also leaves five great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Jerry Bouthilette, and her sisters Barbara Parent, Joan Finn and Janet Hutchins. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and a very large extended family.

Services will be held at Czelusniak Funeral Home Thursday, October 9, 2025 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at the Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 99 King St., Northampton. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery will follow.

Memorial gifts can be made to the C. Bradley McGrath Scholarship Fund, Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust St., Northampton, MA.
