Sandra Lee Mock
August 29, 1939 - December 11, 2024
Sandra Lee Mock passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Burlingame, California, at the age of 85, following several years with dementia. She was a loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be remembered for her kind heart, her warm smile, and her unwavering love for her family.
Born on August 29, 1939, in Seattle, Washington, to Frank and Anna Marie Portin, Sandy grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest alongside her older brother, Arvid. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1957 and went on to attend Washington State University, where she met and married her college sweetheart, Peter Dawson, in 1959.
Sandy and Pete's journey took them from Berkeley, California, to Madison, Wisconsin, and Champaign, Illinois, before settling in Corvallis, Oregon, in 1969. It was here that they raised their two children, Susan and Stephen, with love and care. Sandy was a dedicated homemaker and volunteer, and her involvement with the Hospital Auxiliary was just one of the many ways she made a difference in her community.
After her children were grown, Sandy returned to work as an Executive Assistant to the Director of Food Service for the Albany School District, where she brought her trademark cheerfulness and organizational skills to the job until her retirement.
In 1988, Sandy married Harry Mock, a union that brought her great happiness. They spent many wonderful years together, enjoying camping trips, antique hunting, and square dancing. Their favorite trips included annual visits to Lava Lake and the Oregon coast, where they enjoyed the beauty of nature and the company of good friends.
Sandy is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Dawson; her brother, Arvid Portin; her stepson, Harry W. Mock; and her beloved husband, Harry Mock. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Dawson) Ringoen; her first husband, Pete Dawson; her stepsons, Thomas and Steven; her stepdaughters, Debra and Laurel; as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Sandy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and her enduring love for those around her. She touched many lives with her warm presence, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
