Timothy Hubley Obituary

Timothy Scott Hubley

January 12, 1957 - August 6, 2024

Timothy Scott Hubley, age 67, of Corvallis, OR, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, after a difficult battle with cancer with his beloved wife, Pamela, at his side.Tim was an unusually compassionate person, everyone who knew him loved him, from his coworkers at Hewlett Packard to the many people whose lives he touched with his kindnesses, quick witted problem solving skills and listening ear. He was a bright light, the person who would shovel your snowy driveway and deliver meals to homebound and shelter residents. He was raised with a strong sense of leadership, providing service to ones community was also valuable to Tim.

Because he was so incredibly talented and innovative, Tim was one of HP's valued engineers, which allowed him to work domestically and abroad. His assignments included working on teams designing and building printing presses, ink jet technology, and multiple other areas over his tenure at HP. During his short retirement, other than watching football, Tim was not one to sit still. He built STEM block kits, chess sets and mason bee houses from scrap wood piles, and often tinkered with his camper van.

Tim continued feeding his imagination through many projects and inventions that were both creative and useful at home. Beyond woodworking, Tim engaged in audio-visual and computer projects while continuing his love of learning throughout his lifetime. Tim was active in Corvallis civic organizations and well-known for his community involvement. In addition to being a youth sports team coach in his younger years, in order to reach a broader audience, Tim also developed and operated an a/v system for a local Rotary International chapter.

Tim grew up in Needham, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of the University Massachusetts, and husband to his first wife Rosemarie. Soon after graduation, Tim and Rosemarie left MA for Corvallis where Tim had a job waiting with Hewlett-Packard. Tim and Rosemarie had two children, Marco and Nickelle, to whom Tim was a devoted father. Tim was preceded in death by his son, Marco; and first wife, Rosemarie.

Tim later met and fell in love with his wife, Pamela Swafford, at her stargazing party. They both continued to enjoy chasing stars throughout their marriage. Tim and Pamela loved to travel, have adventures, and stay connected with extended family. Together they had a love of dogs and raised mason bees, and celebrating holidays with family, friends and neighbors.

Tim is survived by his wife, Pamela Swafford of Corvallis; and his daughter, Nickelle Hubley of San Diego, CA.

A Celebration of Life for Tim will be held on Oct. 6, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Common Fields in Corvallis.

I was so saddened to learn of Tim's passing. Tim and I worked closely together for many years at HP, and although we had drifted apart since my retirement, I remember and greatly value his friendship and professional association. We shared many frustrating hours working on print quality testing and other machine vision applications as well as some very interesting business trips. He was a valued technical resource to myself and many others, and he will be greatly missed. Rest easy, my friend.

Same smile, all these years later. I met Tim at our parents printing company, in Needham, where he worked during high school. He became fast friends with my older brother Glen and older sister Carol, friendships that lasted 50 years. Needham was a small town, his parents knew our parents and vice versa, and Tim and Rosemarie were welcome visitors over the years at our parents' lake house. There was always laughter. Our Dad had a nickname for Tim's presence, the 'Hubley bubbly' effect.
Thank you Pamela for bringing such joy to Tim's life.
Tim will be remembered among the Fowlers, always.

I knew Tim for just a short time but considered him a good friend. He was an active member of the Corvallis Rotary Club and that's where we met. Tim was kind, compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor. I miss his smile. Taken too soon, RIP dear friend.
